Mosaic tile

Information

An incomplete mosaic tile made up of blue, black, red and white pieces of tile on a concrete backing. The tile was made by Boote, T. and R. Ltd. Waterloo Road Works & Portland Works, in Burslem, Staffordshire which was founded in 1842. This is part of a large collection of individual mosiac tile pieces and fragments, and the remaining concrete backing which were excavated from the porch area of number 7 Albert Parade during the Piermaseter's Green community dig. The project investigated the homes of Dock Masters, Pier Masters and their families. Numbers 7, 8 and 10 Albert Parade were built by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board in 1852 to accomidate staff for the Albert and Canning Docks. The houses were hit by an incendiary bomb during the Second World War.
