Mother and Child

This is one of several pioneering abstract relief constructions Richards made in the 1930s. It is a cross between a sculpture and a painting. Richards has used simple shapes to depict the gentle kiss of a mother and child. His wife and daughters were very important to him. This piece celebrates the warmth of family life.
