Information

Joseph Worrall (1829 - 1913) was born in Liverpool, where he remained all his life. For over 50 years he lived on Upper Parliament Street. He studied at the Mechanics’ Institute and attended Liverpool Academy life classes, including some under William Davis (1812 - 1873). He trained as a draughtsman and lithographer at a local print-making firm. Worrall eventually came to specialise in figurative and landscape painting, and was busy enough to employ apprentices. He was a member of various societies, including the Liverpool Sketch Club (not to be confused with the Liver Sketching Club), which met at members’ houses, and the Liverpool Academy. This watercolour was produced for the Liverpool Sketch Club.
