Collier specialised in landscape paintings such as this one. He enjoyed working outdoors, capturing the movement and reality of the British countryside. It is unknown when or where this watercolour was made but Collier often painted scenes of North Wales, the Lake District, Sussex Downs and the byways of rural Surrey.
