Mrs Charles Forestier Walker as Beatrice

WAG 8656

Information

This is a portrait of Alice Forestier Walker (about 1867 - 1950, nee Blandy-Jenkins) as Beatrice. So far, little information has been found about her. This is likely to be a study for Holiday's painting 'Dante and Beatrice', in the collection of the Walker Art Gallery. It was probably rejected however, as the final model for Beatrice in the painting was Eleanor Butcher. Alternatively, Holiday may have used Walker as a model for a different depiction of Beatrice. Walker's husband, Charles Forestier Walker (1866 - 1934) was a baronet (of Rhiwderin in the County of Monmouth) and a Conservative MP.
