Mummified Cat

Mummified cat wrapped in linen bangaes. Face modelled and body bandaged in a geometric pattern using natural coloured linen with brown dyed linen. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 192076; purchased at Sotheby's, London, 27 July 1931 Lot 11 "Three Mummies of Cats; and a pair of hide sandals". CONDITION NOTE 1998: Material fragmenting slightly, damage to wrappings at feet, discolouration, exposed cloth is fragile. Conserved in 2014. Currently on loan to The Atkinson (permanent displays) Southport.
