Mummified Fish

Mummified fish brought from Egypt in 1834 by Belzoni. Thousands of pilgrims travelled to sacred sites throughout Egypt to give offerings to the gods. the Nile perch were fish sacred to the goddess Neith and many were mummified and buried at Esna and other sites. Only partial remains wrapped in small piece of linen. Tail end is missing. Paper label attached to the object with ink annotation: "Mummy of a fish". also old Norwich Castle Museum label atatched.
