Wooden mummy label with a hole at one end. Painted on one side with three lines of Greek text which are now very faint. On the other side are painted three lines of Demotic text. During the Roman Period (30 BC – AD 395) inscribed wooden labels were attached to the mummies to identify the dead person. Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 54379: "TABLET Wood, with written inscription. Pierced with whole for hanging. 4 1/8" x 1¾" Egyptian."; Puchased at Stevens's, London, 29 April 1919 Lot 392.
