Wooden mummy label inscribed with one line of Greek in incised relief, and pierced at both ends for attachment to the mummy. During the Roman Period (30 BC – AD 395) inscribed wooden labels were attached to the mummies to identify the dead person.
Wellcome Historical Medical Museum accession no. 59896: TABLET Wood, with inscription. Pierced lug at either end for hanging or fixing 6¼" x 2 5/8" Egyptian. Purchased at Stevens's Auction House Ltd., London, 1 July 1919, Lot 407.
