Mummy Mask Fragment

Moulded plaster face once attached to a mummy mask or mummiform coffin of the 'rishi' type with unusual small face. Painted a dark reddish-brown with black and white eyes. Remnants of gilding and a blue-painted headband. The bright blue band of a false beard is clearly visible along the jawline. From the British School of Archaeology in Egypt 1907 excavations at Deir Rifa, tomb 220. Compare with Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 07.556 and Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, E.16.1907, both from Deir Rifa.
