Mummy Mask Fragment


Moulded plaster face once attached to a mummy mask or mummiform coffin of the 'rishi' type with unusual small face. Painted a dark reddish-brown with black and white eyes. Remnants of gilding and a blue-painted headband. The bright blue band of a false beard is clearly visible along the jawline. From the British School of Archaeology in Egypt 1907 excavations at Deir Rifa, tomb 220.
