56.21.427
Fragment of linen mummy wrapping. Recorded as being taken from the mummy of King Pepy I (Meryra), third ruler of the Sixth Dynasty. Part of his mummy is preserved in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. A sample was taken for radio carbon dating as part of Oxford University's Egyptian Historical Chronologies Project, 2008. When calibrated, using the Oxcal computer program (v3.10) of C. Bronk Ramsey, using the new ‘INTCAL04’ dataset (Radiocarbon 46 (3), 2004), the age range was 2532 - 2469 BC (68.2% probability) and 2577 BC (95.4% probability).
