Napoleon I
LL 175
Information
From 1807 onwards very large numbers of marble and bronze busts of Napoleon were made after Chaudet's model for official purposes. However, the quality and detail of these busts varied considerably. Chaudet’s original marble bust was owned by Napoleon and but cannot be identified, however, Napoleon did commission a bronze copy of the original which is believed to be highly accurate and is now in the Louvre. Lever, who was fascinated with Napoleon, collected both marble and bronze busts.
