Natrix tessellata (Laurenti, 1768)

Medium-sized snake with rather small, narrow, pointed head. Colour variable but usually grey or brown often with pattern of regular dark spots evenly dispersed over the body which may fuse to form dark bars on the back or flanks. Length up to 100 cm.
