Stow-on-the-Wold is a small town in the Cotswolds. It is the highest situated town in the area, giving Short ample opportunity for this far-seeing view. Short lived and worked in London and Sussex for most of his life. He was considered one of the leading figures in the field of etching and engraving in the early 20th century, responsible for reviving interest in mezzotint and aquatint techniques. He was also a skilled watercolourist, as shown by this work.
