Information
Newspaper clipping from unknown publication (possibly the Daily Dispatch as there is a cartoon on verso by George Butterworth) with photograph showing the S.S. Empire Tide with a Hurricane plane on a catapult. The photo caption reads: "To beat long-range bomber raids on our convoys fighter planes are now being catapulted from ships in the convoy. These daring fighter pilots are volunteers, and when they are catapulted from the ships they must take their chance of being picked up from the sea after a combat, or making for the coast if they are within flying range. Their machines cannot return to the ship's deck. They have taken a heavy toll of German bombers. Our picture shows the S.S. Empire Tide with a Hurricane, on a catapult, ready for flying off."
