Offering Stand

52.77.25

Information

Conical shaped object. Rough surface that is scored with three straight lines down the sides. Hollow with no base. Possibly an offering stand or lamp stand. Walls are 15 mm thick at the base. Previously assumed to be from Beni Hasan but there is no evidence recorded of this and it may well be from another excavation Nina and Norman de Garis Davies visited. Compare with Anna Wodzinska, 'A Manual of Egyptian Pottery volume 2: Naqada III-Middle Kingdom' (Boston, 2009), p. 153, 'First Intermediate Period 20'. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Very cracked, chipped, pitted, surface dirt, some salts.
