1973.1.126

Information

Cylindrical jar with a flaring rim. Jars shaped like this were used to store perfumed ointments and unguents. Banded white at the top and pale yellow below. Marked on the base in ink 4001. One of 26 stone vessels found in two groups in tomb 153 E'05, 14-21 April 1905. According to John Garstang's field record slip, this jar ('Wh') was found in a deposit of the western chamber of a Middle Kingdom burial with a greenish-white lid that actually fits with another jar ('Wl').
