Ointment Jar

Cylindrical jar with a flaring rim. Jars shaped like this were used to store perfumed ointments and unguents. Round label with blue border on the base marked in pencil '122 A' (like other items purchased from the de Rustafjaell collection). CONDITION NOTE (1998): Scratched, surface dirt, label adhered to base. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 1906 (de Rustafjaell collection).
