Cylindrical jar with flaring rim and base. Perfumed ointments and unguents were stored in jars like this. Base marked '13998', 'No. 20' and 'No 162'. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Base is cracked, running cracks , chipped, pitted, surface dirt, label adhered to surface. Compare with Ali el-Khouli, ‘Egyptian Stone Vessels, Predynastic Period to Dynasty III: Typology and Analysis’ (Mainz, 1978) no. 5537. Dated by Janine Bourriau to the Old Kingdom (previously dated Predynastic). Danson Catalogue 2 no. 20. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 20-24 January 1913.
