The Custom House was completed in 1839 and housed offices for Customs and Excise. It was partially destroyed by a bomb during the Liverpool Blitz of 1942 and fully demolished in 1948. Today the site makes up part of Liverpool One Shopping Centre. Maud Dart is a little-known Liverpool artist who worked in watercolours and print. She mostly painted landscapes, and exhibited at the Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions at the Walker Art Gallery and the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art.
