Old Mill at Bootle

This is the earliest known work by Samuel Austin in the Walker Art Gallery's collection. Austin specialised in landscapes and coastal scenes. He was thought to be a pupil of Peter de Wint (1784 - 1849) and was greatly influenced by the work of JMW Turner (1775 - 1851). He exhibited at the Liverpool Academy (1822 - 1832) where he was elected Member and Secretary in 1824.
