When peace was declared at the end of the war it came as a huge relief after five long years of fighting and devastating losses. Celebration and reflection were expressed in many ways. Lewis's, a large department store chain with headquarters in Ranelagh Street, Liverpool, rewarded its loyal employees with a generous week's wages.
