This Ormond Bakelite hairdryer was purchased in 1958 from Downes & Davies Ltd, Stanley Street, Liverpool for £3-2-3 (around £85 today!) 

It came in this stylish case with inset oval mirror and comb. 

Technology to enable us to style and cut our hair at home away from the salon in new and improved ways is big business.
