Paris in Construction
WAG 1421
Information
Before settling in London, Lumsden spent a brief period in Paris in 1907 where he produced his most celebrated set of prints called 'Construction in Paris'. This print is part of that series and was purchased from the artist from the Liverpool Autumn Exhibition in 1908. It is a view of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Paris, commonly known as 'Sacré-Cœur Basilica' or simply 'Sacré-Cœur', under construction. Although the foundation stone was laid in 1875 the basilica was not completed until 1914.
