Pastoral, Mountain Shepherds

John Linnell (1792 - 1882) was raised in an artistic environment. His father was a carver and guilder and encouraged Linnell's talent from a young age. He studied under the landscape painter John Varley. He entered the Royal Academy School in 1805, aged thirteen.
