Information
Pelike decorated in the red-figure technique. Made on the Greek mainland, near Elis or around Olympia. Decoration: Side A: satyr chasing woman holding a torch in one hand and a cista (box) and fillet of cloth in the other. The torch indicates that this scene is taking place at night. A preliminary sketch was made for the figures, and is preserved along the legs and arms. Side B: two draped youths, the one of the left holding a stick. The main scenes are bordered above by a short band of laurel, framed between two reserved stripes. Below, a narrow reserved line runs around the vase.
