Pendant

M8919b

Information

One of a pair of gold pendants constructed of sheet gold in the form of vases. Conical, with broad shoulders and pointed bottoms; framing the wide top opening are a pair of tall suspension loops. There is enough room in the top for each to accommodate a perfume-pin/stopper, but these are missing. Decoration in filigree: elliptical outlines for flower petals surrounding the mouth of the vase, and the bottom, set off with large granules of gold on tip of base and between the ends of “petals.” There is evidence of very good, Archaic manufacturing technique. M8919bhas a vertical seam visible in the sheet gold bead; both have spirally twisted wire for the rings.
