Sheet of papyrus mounted on calico and stuck to card. Inscribed in Greek text in 1860 by Constantine Simonides; which he described as being The Periplus of Hanno, the 5th/6th century BC Carthagian navigator. The papyrus is most likely ancient but the text is a modern forgery. The card has an ink annotation by Simonides. Dimensions of the card backing are 530 mm (W) x 341 mm (H).
