Pebble stone of flint with a mid-brown shiny cortex. Pebbles were used with a palette to crush and grind pigment for cosmetics. Not marked by the excavator with the grave number but recorded in the register as being from cemetery H8. Excavated in Petrie's Predynastic cemetery H near the modern village of Semaina, grave no. H8, which was recorded by Mr Mace and Mr Iles and which Petrie described as being "a prehistoric cemetery of the later period" ('Diospolis Parva' p.32). CONDITION NOTE 1998: Deep chip, surface dirt.
