Photograph of river wall repair beneath the Runcorn-Widnes Bridge

Acetate negative by Gerry Castle, ca. 1963-1964. Image shows stone blocks trasported by cranes for repair works of the river wall along the Manchester Shipping Canal/River Mersey beneath the Runcorn-Widnes Bridge (Silver Jubilee Bridge). The Grade II-listed through-arch bridge opened in 1961 as a replacement of the old Widnes-Runcorn Transporter Bridge. It was renamed in honour of Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee in 1977.
