Photograph of a roadside shrine, Western Africa

Silver gelatin print by unknown photographer, ca. 1912-1914. Image shows a roadside shrine consisting of four wooden posts and a flat roof. An effigy of a person sits on a 'throne' in centre. The shrine appears to have either been partially destroyed or fallen into disrepair. Several boards have fallen on the ground and baskets are tipped over in front. From the collection of William John Roberts, Liverpool-born merchant for The Lagos Stores, Ltd. Based in Nigeria, 1912-1914.
