Pier Head, Liverpool

Information
In the 1960s Markson was commissioned by the Liverpool City Council to produce a series of prints to visually record the changing Liverpool landscape as it underwent an urban renewal project. This aquatint forms part of the commission.
This view of the Pierhead captures the familiar landmarks: the Prince's Dock warehouse, St. Nicholas's church, the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Building. In this aquatint Markson manipulates the tonal differences of blue, yellow and terracotta to create a watercolour-like image.
