Information

Anatomical votive model: eye plaque. Approximately life-size, slightly curved, oval plaque with a (left?) human eye in schematic relief at center; moulded depression for eye socket with thick almond-shaped lids, no indication of pupil. Back smooth. Fine-textured, light orange clay containing black and red grit and small flakes of mica. Intact although worn and slightly encrusted. Eye plaques were very common offerings in votive deposits of central Italian (both Etruscan and Italic) sanctuaries.
