The Poisoner

Joseph exhibited four drawings at the 1911 Liverpool Autumn Exhibition, including this one. No further information about the artist has thus been found. This fine drawing is similar in style to the work of artist-illustrators such as Aubrey Beardsley (1872 - 1898) and John Austen (1886 - 1948), with its intricate detail, strong lines and mysterious subject matter.
