Portable Shrine / Tashi Gomang Chorten

This portable shrine in the form of a stupa comes from Bhutan, where it was used by lama manipa (travelling monks). Monks carried them on their backs from village to village, in order to explain the Buddhist teachings. As they told the religious stories, they opened and closed the appropriate doors of the shrine. The back of each door has a painted Buddhist figure, behind each door is a compartment that hold clay tsa tsa, moulded images of Buddhist figures, some finished in gold.
