Portrait of a Bearded Man

This painting appears to be a study from life rather than a portrait. Artists would make studies and keep them in their studios for use in larger works when needed. Sometimes they used the same face more than once. Fabritius was a pupil of Rembrandt, one the most famous Dutch artists of the 17th century. He also worked in Rembrandt’s studio.
