Portrait of a Woman

From the inscriptions on the mount and back of this drawing, this could be a portrait of Mrs Freine, wife of the merchant Mr Freine. It is likely that the drawing WAG 8993 is a companion portrait. Simply entitled 'Portrait of a Man', by the same artist, it is possible that it is her husband Mr Freine. Both portraits are drawn using a similar in style and composition. If it is a companion portrait it can also be dated at 1825.
