Portrait of a Woman

Lever purchased this painting without attribution. Although the handling of the paint is fairly crude, there is no real reason to think that the work is a forgery, and it has been dated to the period 1640 - 1660. The black mourning veil worn by the sitter along with her rather extreme neckline suggests the work is a vanity painting rather than a realistic portrait.
