Powder horn engraved with scene of siege of Havana. Sling is plaited textile trimmed with horsehair tassels with quill and metal decoration. In 1762, Britain successfully attacked Havana, Cuba, weakening Spain's stronghold in the Caribbean. This meticulously engraved horn is a record of the British siege of Havana, showing the Royal Arms of Great Britain, clipper ships and armed men. It demonstrates European competition for land and resources in the Americas.
