Proportions of the Female Figure

WAG 1995.253

Information

This drawing is framed in a very unusual mount: it has a border of green, with gilt highlights, and a slightly raised design. According to an inscription on the mount A E Popham (art historian, former Keeper of the British Museum's Prints and Drawings collection and Parmigianino scholar), believed it was by Parmigianino and related to similar drawings in Parma, possibly referring to drawings in the Galleria Nazionale. According to another inscription on the mount the nineteenth-century German art history professor Gustav Waagen, who saw the Blundell Collection on his visit to Ince Blundell in 1850, considered this drawing: 'Very pretty'.
