Information

The Puente de San Martin, in Toledo, Spain, is a medieval bridge spanning the river Tagus. At the time of its construction in the 14th century, it was one of the largest bridges of its day. This drawing was executed by Henry Hugill when he visited Spain with friends; the group is supposedly the one shown on the right bank of the river. Hugill was a printer, painter and teacher who studied at the Royal Collage of Art under Gerald Moria and Frank Short from 1908-14. He exhibited twelve times at the Royal Academy and was a prominent member of the Liverpool Art Scene in the first half of the 20th century.
