Fragment broken from a ceramic container - a pyxis. Painted decoration and around the wall of the vessel moulded impression showing four figures. From the same container as 49.47.836, decorated with an image of Heracles. A style of pottery vessel characteristic of Hellenistic culture and likely to have been imported into Meroë from the Mediterranean. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Surface cracked, worn, chipped, mottled discolouration, surface dirt.
