A protective amulet for the dead that combines the body of a scarab beetle with the head of ram. Held between the back legs is a shen hieroglyph representing protection and eternity. Pierced around the edge with 27 holes for threading on a bead net placed over a mummified body or for stiching the amulet direct to the wrappings. CONDITION NOTE (1998): Pitted, chipped, worn, surface loss, surface dirt Mayer Collection Inventory 1928: Large sized faience scarab from the net work of a mummy. The scarab is ram-headed with a disc in its hind legs. Made of Elytra and pierced several times around the outer edge.
