Worked as appropriated pilot for Nippon Yushen Kaisha, W L Nickels,and Compania Transmediterranea (Spanish Line). Reference refer to his ability to speak Spanish. Master's Certificate of Competency for a home trade passenger ship, 1906. Letters re First World War service including sinking by torpedo of Hirano Maru, loss of Captain Fraser, 1918. Photographs of Walpole with other apprentice pilot on Queen Victoria. Later in career with other pilots on No 1 Pilot Boat, 1931, with list of names. Photographs of pilots boarding vessels at sea.
