Information

Length of reed matting folded in two. Also a piece of small piece of linen with cream coloured substance. At Tarkhan reed matting was used to to line grave walls, floors and roofs. Exhibition label from 1952 reads: "MATTING. A piece of Egyptian reed matting which is over five thosand years old. Found in a grave at Tarkhan." CONDITION NOTE (1998): Vulnerable, fibres are very loose, surface dirt, edges are fraying, worn, surface loss.
