Information
A copper gilt and jarao work figure of Durga with eighteen arms. She lunges to the right with her feet on an enemy of Hinduism (dressed in armour) and on her vehicle the lion, who in appearance looks like a seng ge or lion-dog guardian made by the Newari community. Her face, arms and stomach are created from coral inlays, the face of the enemy fitted with carved amber and the lion and lotus base are fitted with turquoise and possibly jade and agate stones. There is an aperture at the base which suggests the figure fitted into a larger group that was meant to be seen from the front only, as the back has no detail.
