The Rest on the Flight (The Holy Family at the foot of a tree)

This drawing is a copy after a three-block chiaroscuro woodcut by Ludolph Büsinck (ca. 1590-1669) at Worcester Art Museum, Massachussetts, itself after a drawing by Bloemart, 'The Holy Family at the Foot of a Tree', in the Pierpont Morgan Library [acc. no. I, 229]. Büsinck engraved the Bloemart in reverse and did not follow its colour scheme of contrasting green and brown, substituting different shades of brown. This drawing follows both the Büsinck colour scheme and its reversed direction.
