Revengers Tragedy

Revengers Tragedy, 2002 Wirral born cult-filmmaker Alex Cox’s follow-up to Three Business Men – also set in Liverpool - was adapted by writer Frank Cottrell Boyce from the 17th century play of the same name. The film is set in post-apocalyptic Liverpool in 2011 and Cottrell Boyce mixes the original Jacobean text with contemporary language. The film was entirely shot and edited in Liverpool with an almost completely local crew. The city’s grand civic buildings and scarred urban landscape perfectly exploit the film’s anti-capitalist themes.
