Ruined Bridge and River [Narni?]
WAG 3221
Information
It has been suggested that this watercolour by an unknown British artist is of the ruined Roman Bridge of Augustus at Narni, Italy. The bridge was a popular destination for European tourists in the 19th century. Only one column of the original four remains today, the others having been gradually destroyed by erosion, earthquakes and floods.
