Saucer

LL 1538

Information

A white jasper saucer, partially coated in blue jasper with white jasper sprigged decoration. This type of saucer with a deep centre well was made to hold a chocolate cup. The white stripes are produced by removing the top blue layer. Wedgwood developed this technique using an engine turning lathe. The chocolate cup to match the saucer is LL 1537. It is a handleless cup with white sprigged decoration depicting putti riding a lion-drawn chariot whilst playing trumpets.
